MONTREAL, MAINE & ATLANTIC RAILWAY, LTD. – DISCONTINUANCE OF SERVICE AND ABANDONMENT – IN AROOSTOOK AND PENOBSCOT COUNTIES, ME.

            On April 9, 2010, the Surface Transportation Board’s (Board) Section of Environmental Analysis (SEA) issued a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) in this proceeding.  The Draft EA provided a 30-day comment period for interested parties to submit comments.  Comments were originally due May 12, 2010.

 

            In a decision issued on April 26, 2010, the Board granted a request from the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway Ltd’s (MMA)—a request concurred with by the State of Maine—to extend the procedural schedule for a period of 3 weeks so that MMA and the State could enter into confidential mediation concerning the future of the line.  The Board’s decision granting the extension made MMA’s rebuttal due on or before May 26, 2010 and extended by 3 weeks related Board procedural dates. 

 

By this notice, SEA is advising all interested parties that the comment period on the Draft EA will also be extended until May 26, 2010.  Comments must be postmarked or e-filed no later than May 26, 2010.  In the interest of time, SEA would prefer to receive comments electronically.  To submit environmental comments electronically, please access the Board’s Web site at www.stb.dot.gov, follow the “E-FILING” hyperlink, then “Environmental Comments” hyperlink.  Please reference Docket No. AB 1043 (Sub-No. 1).  

 

It is ordered:

 

1.  The comment period on the Draft EA, originally scheduled to conclude on May 12, 2010, shall be extended to May 26, 2010.
